CNC Bárcenas developed and manufactured the prototype of a large-format FGF 3D printer for thermoplastics in polymer-based pellets format with micro-cork particles for the “ADICORK” project of the University of Cádiz and the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Sustainable Development of the Junta de Andalucía.
This prototype was developed to make test tubes and product prototypes using this technique, using materials developed in the ADICORK project. In this project, polymer-based composite materials are developed that incorporate micro-particles of cork, to increase the value of this material of natural origin and take advantage of its attractive functional properties and sustainable nature.
The University of Cádiz incorporated this 3D printer prototype to its facilities at the same time that it created a research group focused on materials and nanotechnology to improve the innovation capacity of the cork sector.
